THE UNIVERSITY of Technology (UTech) won both sections as the 2008 Inter-Collegiate Track & Field Championships ended at G. C. Foster College of Physical Education yesterday.

The females tallied 192 points to beat G. C. Foster College (188) and the University of the West Indies (UWI - 122) while the men's team scored 210 points to beat G.C. Foster (185) and Portmore (71).

Knox Community College were fourth in the women's section with 42 points and fifth in the men's section (48) to finish as the top rural college.

Meanwhile, eight records were broken over the two days. UWI's Tanice Barnett ran 10:17.04 to break former G.C. Foster student Tamica Thomas' one-year-old mark of 11:17.77 in the 3,000 metres.

Rosemarie White, who was forced to re-run her 400m hurdles after irregularities with the hurdles on Friday, won in a faster 59.38 seconds to beat the 1:00.10 UTech's Kaliese Spencer ran for gold in 2007. UTech's Megan Reid (12.67m) beat the 12.40m women's triple jump record previously held by Kemisha Nelson.

In the javelin, UTech's Andre Clarke threw 65.58 to beat his own mark of 60.58m, while G.C. Foster's Tanesha Blair hurled 46.08m to beat former teammate Peta-Gaye Beckford's mark of 42.55m.

White also added the 400m record in a reasonable 53.67 to beat UTech's Stephanie McPherson (55.32) and her teammate, Anastasia Le-Roy (55.51). Le-Roy took the 200m in 23.45 ahead of UTech's pair of Alecia Cutenar (23.66) and Nyoka Cole (23.87). G. C. Foster's Schillonie Calvert (11.41) won the women's 100m ahead of Cutenar (11.58) and Cole (11.72), while Ryan Wright of G.C. Foster (10.59) took the men's event ahead of UTech's Jesse Saunders (10.62).
