Partying under Portland skies

Mandeville businessman Trevor Heaven chose picturesque Portland to throw a birthday party for his wife, Claudine, on Saturday March 29. It held special significance for Claudine, who is from Port Antonio, and the celebration by the sea beckoned guests to "an afternoon with good friends, great music and excellent food" at Norma's at the Marina. Dress code was white and start time was three o'clock.

Since the festivities would last way into the night (and given the distance over challenging road conditions), guests were provided with a list of resort properties where they could opt to spend the night.

Donations

Keisha and Walter Scott in a world all of their own.

Having a solid church upbringing, Claudine requested that in lieu of birthday presents, her friends make a donation to the 200 year-old Christ Church Port Antonio restoration fund. So, for the structure which is currently in need of major repairs, the cheque donations would be made payable to Christ Church Port Antonio.

On hand to bless the meal and explain the nature of the restoration was Rev'd Grace Jervis, rector of the church who interacted with guests and shared details of the project. Those who were not able to attend were encouraged to send their donations later.

And as Navy Island held its secrets silently across sea, aestheticians gave foot massages to those who needed them.

Those who travelled from far and near included former Agriculture minister Roger Clarke, expressing delight over rain in his parish (St Elizabeth), last week. Also, former technology minister, Phillip Paulwell, who is guarding his privacy (and new lady love); Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association head, Errol Edwards, and very special guests, Bertram Hill, Mr Heaven's son-in-law and his brother, actor Dule Hill, who flew in just for the event.

Guest list

Michelle Williams, sister of Trevor Heaven, and her daughter, Samantha Melbourne.

Also out were Dwight and Sharon Moore, Carmen Patterson, Michelle Williams and her daughter; Samantha Melbourne; Lola Williams; Leighton and Novlette McKnight; Hugh and Claudette Reid; Richard and Barbara Jones; Maureen Ricketts; Hugh and Monica Coore; Trevor Richards; Maurice and Paulette Henry; Wayne and Christine Wray; Trevor and Celia Randle; Monty and Rosemarie Vaz; Relda Sott-Smith.

As well as lifelong friends of Claudine: Juliet Babooram, Charmaine Kassie and Patrice Grey; Denise West; Garthia Boyd; Beulah DaSilva; Pamella Wint; David Jamieson; Winston and Camille Lawson; Horace and Diana Bryson; Huntley and Marcel Cameron; Tony, Paulette and Maurice Henry; Maurice Scott; Sophia Morgan; Nicola Spencer; Denton Golding; Roy and Zelma Townsend; Sydney and Beryl Jengelley; Dr Warren Jengelley and brother, Dwight Jengelley.

Transportation to and from Portland was via Issa Transport Group's 2008 Audi A6. Check it out at www.audijamaica.com.
