Jamaica surge to top of standings
published: Saturday | March 22, 2008

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

Barbados suffered their first loss of the tournament but rain had the final say in the third round of matches of the 2008 CLICO West Indies Under-15 tournament here Thursday.

At the Windsor Park Stadium, Jamaica defeated Barbados by virtue of a better run rate to move to the top of the points standings, but the other two matches finished in no-results.

At Botanic Gardens, Windward Islands and Leeward Islands had their encounter ruined by rain, while the match between Guyana and T&T suffered a similar fate at Benjamin's Park.

Both Barbados and Jamaica entered the match on four points, having won their two previous matches. However, it was the Jamaicans who came up on top after rain severely affected the proceedings. Barbados batted first after winning the toss and were bowled out for 92 in 40.2 overs. In form batsman Kraigg Brathwaite hit a top score of 33, with other significant contributor for Barbados being 33 extras.

Ramon Senior took three for nine, while Adrian Moultan and John Campbell supported with two for five and two for 13, respectively.

In reply, Jamaica reached 64 for four in 23 overs when rain stopped play, with Chrishna Graham unbeaten on 20.

Justin Greaves with two for 13 was the most successful bowler for Barbados.

Defending champions

Defending champions Windward Islands, sent in to bat, reached 192 in 35 overs with wicketkeeper Jerlani Robinson leading all scorers with 33 runs.

Emmanuel Peter added 31, Kavem Hodge chipped in with 30 and Sunil Ambris aided the total with 24.

Captain Rahkeem Cornwall was the pick of the bowlers for the Leeward Islands, taking five for 41 including a hat-trick.

In their match, Guyana reached 78 for eight off their allotted 21 overs with Clinton Pestano being the top scorer with 20.

In the penultimate round of matches today, Guyana will take on Jamaica at the Benjamin's Park in Portsmouth, while the Leeward Islands and Trinidad and Tobago do battle at Botanic Gardens. In the other encounter, Windward Islands and Barbados will clash at Windsor Park.
