Commissioner of Police, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, has condemned the murder of Detective Constable Andre Chung, the first policeman reported killed this year.
Admiral Lewin said the Jamaica Constabulary Force is offering $1 million to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and charge of the killers of the detective constable, whose body was found in the Tavistock area of St Andrew yesterday.
The body of the 22-year-old Chung, who was attached to Special Branch, was found with gunshot wounds at Tavistock Terrace in Jacks Hill.
Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network's metro officer are that, about 6:50 a.m., a passer-by saw the body and notified the police.
Close inspection of the body by police investigators revealed gunshot wounds.
Lewin said the death of detective constable Chung "is a reminder that all police personnel must remain vigilant on and off duty".
Minister of National Security Derrick Smith said he has spoken with Chung's mother and offered his condolences.
Smith said the demise of such a young member of the JCF comes at a time when the security forces have been making steady headway in the fight against crime.
