DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Holy Family Primary won their second consecutive lien on the 'CB' Chicken/ Institute of Sports/Kingston and St Andrew Corporation Primary Schools football competition, following a hard-fought, extra-time 2-1 victory over Maxfield at Barbican yesterday.

Huntley Dixon (ninth and 67th) scored both goals for Holy Family while Carvel Crossman (sixth) struck early for Maxfield.

Percival 'Heightsman' Cordwell, coach of Holy Family, was elated with his team's performance.

"I am overjoyed for this victory," said Cordwell.

"We came into today's game as the defending champions and as underdogs because Maxfield won the knockout and they also beat us in the semi-finals of that competition," he said.

Was always confident

"I am not really pleased with the overall performance of my team because we can play much better, this because we got complacent at crucial points of the game, but I was always confident that we were going to win this game."

Meanwhile, Marlon Richards, coach of Maxfield, said: "We played very well but it is just that in the extra-time period, we made a defensive error and Holy Family were able to capitalise on it and that cost us the game."

"However, this a magnificent performance by my team because none of the boys failed us because they fought like thorough champions today," he said.

Maxfield were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the sixth minute when Crossman fired a powerful, close-range shot past goalkeeper Winston Richards.

Eequalised

However, Dixon gave Holy Family the equaliser three minutes later when he lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Jervaughni McLeod, who was advancing out of his goal.

Lincoln Fairweather thought he had struck Holy Family's second goal on the stroke of halftime but his long-range free kick shaved the crossbar.

Both teams squandered numerous scoring chances in the second period with Crossman, Kevin Clarke and Jermaine Allen missing for Maxfield. While Rushane Facey, Dixon and Nicholas Hamilton missed for Holy Family.

Finally, Dixon latched on to a deflection off the Maxfield goalkeeper and fired home the winning goal for his team with three minutes remaining in the final extra-time period.
