Teachers, leave while you can
published: Sunday | February 24, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I have been taking an interest in articles pertaining to the rise in demonstrations in some educational institutions, born primarily out of discontentment with school administration and more recently, the lack of discipline among students. Christiana High is the latest. I want to ask you to permit me to challenge the teachers, by saying though some will not leave, some must consider taking a break. Explore another field where your contribution to nation building will be respected.

Multifaceted problems

Some problems are multifaceted and many parents disrespect and disregard your worth. Perhaps some readers will interpret this as my encouraging an exodus to North America. God forbid!

Where else would one tolerate someone defecating in the office or staff room? Don't sink so low. You are worth more than that, teachers.

I left after 15 years and believe me, I am better off. Not that I work in Heaven or earn a fortune, but that kind of stress is not for persons with a sense of purpose and personal pride. Don't let them think you are dumb! Interpret what is being meted out to you. Explore other areas and continue the thrust towards nation building.

I am happy I left before my experiences included yours. I empathise from the depth of my heart.

I am a graduate teacher with my self-worth and pride still intact and still serving in the public domain.

I am, etc.,
