Champagne corks are expected to pop this afternoon at the Palisadoes International Raceway, following the face-off between 10-year-old Thomas Issa and 11-year-old Colin Daley Jr in the Rotax Min-max Class.
After what happened at the Florida Winter Tour race meet two weeks ago, go-kart fans are eagerly awaiting the clash between the youngsters. Issa's smashing performance at the overseas meet has left his critics stunned, while Daley, who also participated at that meet, had a tough day.
"Our plan is to put up a show against Colin Daley Jr," said Peter Rae, Issa's driving coach, who was asked to give his opinion on who will be the winner.
In a recent interview with Automotives, Daley's coach, Peter 'Jacko' Moodie, described him as a youngster with natural talent and ability, who needs to just keep his mind alert.
Competitive showdown
When asked to give his opinion on who will come out on top this afternoon, Moodie said both youngsters have been performing well, and the stage is set for a very competitive showdown, but believed Daley will have the edge.
The return of Dane Lawson with his New Life Pharmacy Rotax kart, up against Joel Jackson, Peter Moodie Jr and the Anderson brothers (André and Martin) in the Rotax International Class, should provide more entertainment for the fans, who are expected to turn out in droves. Lawson, who has not raced competitively since 2005, will be racing out of the camp of the 'Rae Racing Team'.
The Rotax Masters Class with Mike Simmons, Dwight Moore, and Peter Rae promises to be a thriller, especially the anticipated ding-dong battle between Moore and Simmons.
"I am coming to have fun," said the veteran Simmons, who is the most experienced karter at the track.
The race meet is scheduled to begin at mid-day, but prior to that the karters will engage in qualifying for grid position.
