August Town break scoring drought
published: Thursday | January 24, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Reno 1

Fabian Blake 10th

August Town 1

Jeremy Miller 83rd

August Town's goalless spell was broken yesterday when they drew 1-1 with Reno in the second round of the Cash Plus Premier League at UWI Bowl.

Reno increased their points tally to 24 while August Town, second from bottom of the league, improved to 17 points.

In the first half Reno started well and secured the lead in the 10th minute through Fabian Blake.

However, they lost momentum for the rest of the half, while August Town failed to secure goals, despite producing numerous opportunities to score.

Dismal play continued into the second half until seven minutes before the close of the game when substitute Jeremy Miller netted August Town's only goal in the 83rd minute.

Former goalkeeper for the Reggae Boyz and coach of Reno, Aaron Lawrence, was pleased with the overall performance of his team.

Chances

"I think we could have come away with the three points. We got the chances to put them away but it is unfortunate we didn't. I think the players had the determination and fought to the end. I cannot say anything bad about the performance," said Lawrence.

Captain of August Town, David Laylor, stated that his team was disappointed with their continued dismal performance.

"We are a little disappointed. As you can see the coach is not even here. Not that he ran away, but I guess he is disappointed like the team. We should have won this match easily," Laylor said.

"We couldn't afford to lose at this point. It would have been disappointing if we lost today again. Drawing and having one point, I think it's a start in going forward. We have a new cluster of forwards and one made his debut today and scored. So it's a good start for the team and as we work more together we should see better results in the future."
