Simoes summons 24 for Costa Rica friendly
published: Thursday | January 24, 2008

Arnett's Craig 'War Lord' White

In-form English-based strikers Ricardo Fuller and Marlon King headline a squad with 14 overseas-based players expected to form a 23-man group when Jamaica's Reggae Boyz take on Costa Rica at the National Stadium on February 6.

The overseas-based players will be joined by nine local-based players selected from a squad of 24, who will begin camp on January 28 through February 1.

Harbour View midfielder Jermaine Hue has been called back to national duty, and is joined by teammates, striker Fabian Taylor, Christopher Harvey and goalkeeper Dwayne Miller.

Not surprisingly, Portmore United's Rudolf Austin, who was a stand-out in Jamaica's last two friendly internationals against Guatemala and Honduras, has also been invited to train with the team. Wolry Wolfe and striker Roen Nelson, who has just rejoined Portmore United following a stint with Trinidad and Tobago Premier League club Joe Public, defender Adrian Reid and Duwayne Kerr, are also a part of the Portmore contingent.

Also joining the team are Tivoli's Oraine Simpson and Christopher Jackson, Desmond Breakenridge of Waterhouse and Seba's Keneil Moodie.

First-timers

Nine first-timers will have their chance to impress technical director Rene Simoes as Pan-Am Games stand-outs Ricardo Cousins, Eric Vernon and Keammar Daley, St. Georges Dwayne Phidd, Waterhouse's Hugh Howell, Tivoli Gardens' Navion Boyd, Andre Darby of Naggo Head, Lance Laing of Harbour View and hard-nosed Arnett defender, Craig White, have also been called.

Joining Fuller and King, who scored 12 and 11 goals, respectively, for Championship outfits Stoke City and Watford so far this season, are Bolton Wanderers' Ricardo Gardner, Derby County's Claude Davis, Tranmere Rover's Ian Goodison, Queen's Park Rangers' Damion Stewart, Stoke City's Demar Phillips. Bradford City custodian Donovan Ricketts and teammate Omar Daley, Jamal Campbell-Ryce (Barnsley), Luton Shelton (Sheffield United), Tyrone Marshall (Toronto), Shavar Thomas (Chivas USA) and Jason Morrison (Royal Whitestar) complete the overseas-based contigent.
