The men's and women's teams from the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) scored successes on yesterday's third day of the third annual UWI Mona Indoor Hockey Tournament, at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

Cave Hill's women's team, CHILL, scored a double by crushing G.C. Foster 'A' 5-1, and University of Technology (2-0) in tertiary play-off matches. The Barbadians' male team also scored a handsome 4-1 victory over UTech.

In another tertiary match, among men, G.C. Foster 'B' edged its 'A' team 2-1.

In the high schools' section, Wolmer's Girls beat St. Andrew High 'A' 3-1 with goals from Alexia Nembhard and a Shanice Heron brace.

The competition, hosted by the UWI sports department in collaboration with the UWI Mona Hockey Club, promotes hockey in Jamaica and is part of the institution's 60th anniversary celebrations.

It got under way on Wednesday with a line-up of teams from local schools and clubs in Jamaica, as well as Caribbean participants from UWI's Cave Hill and St. Augustine campuses.

The teams are vying for top honours in three sections - high school, tertiary institutions and clubs.

In Thursday's action, St. Andrew 'B' whipped St. Andrew 'A' 6-0, and St. Andrew 'B' got the better of Wolmer's Girls 4-0.

At the tertiary level, UTech beat G.C. Foster 'F' 3-0 in female competition, but lost 1-3 to UWI. The UWI women's team scored another win, beating G.C. Foster 5-1, while UTech's men's team blanked G.C. Foster 'B' 3-0, and UWI defeated G.C. Foster 'A' 5-1, also in men's competition.

Cave Hill Club scored two wins in female competition on Thursday, beating G.C. Foster's 'A' and 'B' teams 2-0 and 3-0, respectively.

In the club competition, the day belonged to defending champions Tropics who beat Raiders 8-0. Raiders Suns were beaten 2-0 by Raiders United, Sharpes beat St. Andrew Hockey Club (SAHC) 3-1, and Sharpes earned a 4-3 win over Circus Circle.
