EDITORIAL - On with the talks
Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller was ill-advised from the start to freeze talks with the Government on matters of bilateral cooperation. The insult (real or perceived) by the Prime Minister of Mrs. Simpson Miller and her party did not, in our view, rise to the level to derail dialogue on issues of serious consequence to Jamaica.

Yesterday is today

I have had the opportunity of being a close observer of politics and politicians for more than 50 years. During that time, I have seen the good and the bad, the love and the hate, the beautiful and the ugly, and all the opposite sides of human interaction involved in the political competition for power and glory. (Neita)

Closing police stations not necessary

The Editor, Sir: I acknowledge the police commissioner's move to welcome the public's views of his proposal to close some police stations deemed 'unnecessary'. I applaud this idea, especially since I am not in agreement with that decision. My reason is that I don't think if we want more police on the streets, closing the police stations is the answer.

Issue: 'First black' label seen as insult

We have previously protested to the Jamaican media that the use of such references to 'first black' in their publications amounts to an insult to the collective personal dignity of the persons being so honoured for these so-called 'first black' feats, if not to the entire African/Nubian populations of the world.
