A handsome bay colt by Deputy's Report, out of Ray-Lise, fetched the top price of $1.8 million in Sunday's annual Thoroughbred Yearling Sale held in the official car park at Caymanas Park.

Bred by Laurence Heffes, the yearling, who has an uncanny resemblance to his sire, Deputy's Report, was purchased by owner/trainer Richard Azan. He was foaled on February 2 last year.

Entering the ring as lot 84, the well-conformed yearling attracted an opening bid of $200,000 and, in the end, his price fell just short of the $2 million paid for CLASSY BOY PETE (bay colt by Royal Minister-Secret Pleasure) in 2004.

Deputy's Report's colt was just one of 11 yearlings sold for $1 million or more at the TOBA-promoted sale. The others were:

Lot 102 - bay colt by Royal Minister out of Ma Chanson bred by the Paradise Farm, sold for $1.7 million.

Lot 96 - bay colt by Skipping out of Spirit Of Jamaica, bred by Jack DeLisser, purchased by Azan for $1.5 million.

Lot 60 - bay colt Deputy's Report out of Fullyloaded, bred by Derrick Brandt sold to Peter Lawson for $1.5 million.

Lot 108 - bay colt by Image Maker out of Royal Grind bred by the Argyll Farms Limited sold for $1.5 million.

Lot 6 - chestnut colt by Western Classic out of Korsage bred by HAM Stables Limited, purchased by José Pinchin for $1.2 million.

Lot 109 - Law Of The Sea out of Tech All bred by Jack DeLisser and Laurence Heffes, sold for $1.2 million.

Lot 117 - bay colt by Deputy's Report out of Explosive Wit bred by Marcos Dabdoub, purchased by Azan for $1.2 million.

Lot 30 - bay colt Footloose II out of Good As Gold bred by Henry W. Jaghai O.D. purchased by Anthony Ferguson for $1.1 million.

Lot 53 - bay colt by Image Maker out of Gamma Knife bred by Argyll Farms Limited, purchased for $1.1 million by visiting Barbadian owner Elias Haloute on behalf of countryman Captain Anthony White;

Lot 106 - bay colt by Law Of The Sea out of Runaway Sheila bred by Paradise Farm, sold for $1million.

A total of 108 yearlings from the 128 consigned (some withdrawn) were sold, realising a record turnover of $56.9 million. This bettered the previous record of $54.6 million set last year when more yearlings (128) were sold.

Auctioneer was popular racing commentator Brian 'Spuddy' Rick-man, assisted by Dr. Paul Wright.
