Getting a driver's licence
published: Tuesday | November 13, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

The statement made by the police commissioner that it is too easy to get a driver's licence in Jamaica is very true. You just need money for any crooked licensing examiner to give you a driver's licence.

I do wonder if these people are not aware of the danger they put themselves and their own children in every day when they issue licences to people who do not know how to turn the steering wheel, moreover to drive.

I have proof of people who bought their licences and they cannot drive. When I went for my licence, I failed my road test twice. I know that I could drive very well, but I did not pay, so I could not get it.

Pleas stop this corruption! Jamaica is a great place and a small place, too, but the amount of fatal casualties on the road is too many.

I am, etc.
