Road lines need repainting
published: Tuesday | November 13, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Driving on our roads is made difficult because the white lines indicating lanes or other functions are faded or non-existent. Depending on where you drive, the roads are not clearly marked. For example lines are on some rural highways and at critical locations such as the Bustamante Hospital for Children. On the other hand, in the heart of most towns in Jamaica, the marks on the road are barely visible or nowhere in sight.

Unsafe for pedestrians

For example the white lines at the traffic light at the intersection of Waltham Park and Hagley Park roads or where Waltham Park and Molynes roads meet in Kingston are non-existent. The lines to show pedestrian crossings are also disappearing. As a result, pedestrians only option is to walk willy-nilly across the road exposing themselves to danger.

The road lines may be critical in determining who was wrong or right in traffic mishaps. These lines on city streets should be repainted more frequently and with more durable paint.

I am, etc.,
