Scott's double gives Reno a first
published: Monday | November 12, 2007

Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

It took seven matches, and a match-up with a debutant still finding its feet at this level, for Reno to score its first victory in the Cash Plus Premier League yesterday at St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

Recardo Scott, nicknamed 'Drogba', who featured among the top scorers in the league last season when Reno finished third, scored both goals (35th, 69th), as the Westmoreland side secured maximum points in a 2-1 win over St. Georges of Portland.

Reno's win doubled their points count to six, their previous three points coming in draws against Harbour View, Boys' Town and Arnett Gardens.

St. Georges, which entered yesterday's contest with a creditable eight points, got their goal through substitute Richardo Watson in the 85th minute, more of a consolation rather than belying the way they played.

Reno quicker

Both teams were fairly slick in possession, but Reno were quicker in the transitions, mainly through the combined pace of their front men Scott and Kirk Wright who came on as substitute and provided the final of 13 passes that were beautifully strung to create the decisive goal midway the second half.

The win probably saved the season for Reno, and technical director Wendel Downswell wants to use this game to start a momentum.

"We made a concerted effort to win today. In previous games we realised we were having too much turnovers trying to rush into attack. We had better possession and were composed and you could see it in the second goal we scored."

Losing coach Desmond Duckie, whose charges will next face fellow debutant Sporting Central at home in Portland, felt his team did enough to get a share of the points and opined that Reno's first goal was offside.
