How to solve crime
published: Sunday | November 11, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Crime is a big problem we face in the country at this time. So, I am sending to the Minister of National Security these seven ways to solve crime.

1. Establish a police community relations office in each troubled community across the island, and from those offices, steps can be taken to solve crime.

2. Have a police sports club so that citizens and the police could have a fun day on some weekends.

3. Set up a skills training and educational centre in these communities for citizens to be trained in any area of their choice. Children could use the centre after school to do their homework. The military could assist in this area.

4. Ask the minister in charge of information technology to set up a system so people can communicate with the police.

5. Let the Church establish gospel outreach programmes, because without God, these programmes cannot work.

6. Ask the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica to set up businesses in these communities to provide job opportunities.

7. A Governor-General award can be given to a community that has no crime in one year.

Minister, you should visit communities to check on the progress.

I am, etc.,
