Belmont Road may not be the hip strip of Knutsford Boulevard but, with Carlos' Café, it has its fair share of swing.

It's been 17 years since the world was introduced to the happening venue and it only seems to be getting better. According to Carlos MaxBrown, head honcho of the establishment and the man from whom the name is derived, Carlos' Café provides a "chic, upscale, dinner and club." There are theme days to keep things different and entertaining. The busiest nights are Martini Mondays and Karaoke Fridays. The clientele stretches from the young, up and coming professionals to the older crowd.

"It depends on the theme night and the season. In the summer, we get a lot of the young professionals and college graduates. But this time of year it's back to the over 30 crowd," said MaxBrown. Apart from its great music, the food is definitely something to remember.

The pastas, steamed fish and steaks have found their way into the hearts (and stomachs), of the patrons. The martini creations are the most popular libations.

The dining area can accommodate 140 persons while the club can hold about 175. On the busy nights, MaxBrown recommends you call to reserve. Every restaurant has its signature and for MaxBrown, Carlos' Café is all about the people.

Our patrons bring a certain vibe to the place," he said unhesitatingly. And The Gleaner sponsored Kingston Restaurant Week, will be no different.

After another busy day at work, diner John Graham sits down for a meal at Carlos' Café on Belmont Road.
