Golden Bowl get away from the hustle and bustle

A little outside of Half-Way Tree's hustle is one of The Gleaner's Kingston Restaurant Week (KRW's) tasty institutions, Golden Bowl.

Golden Bowl has had various locations in the corporate area, from Luke Lane and Barry Street in downtown Kingston to York Plaza in Half-Way Tree square. Despite the changes, the great taste remains the same.

Assistant Manager Terri Chin told Food that the reputation of a few of their dishes has gone abroad. "Some persons tell you, 'look I just come back to the island.'. The suey mein (soup) and pork and yam are two of the dishes that persons absolutely go for."

There's room for about 130 patrons and, if you're hosting a little shindig away from the others, with a little sleight of hand, the room can be transformed into your own dining space. You can also rent the venue for wedding receptions and other special events.

Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are among the busiest days; with the crowds for lunch time packing the house. Hurricane Dean's damage forced them to find other suppliers for their goods. "It was difficult to get meat because the roads to the rural areas were impassable and the farmers couldn't get to bring their stock in," explained manager Peter Chin.

And, for those who would prefer to hang out while sipping a few drinks with perhaps a little finger food, Golden Bowl satisfies that need as well with its well stocked bar.
