The Editor, Sir:I recently watched a programme aired on a local tv station in Washington, DC, which was about the use of solar power and other renewable energy as a means of limiting our dependence on fossil fuels.
It was extremely gripping information. For example, in Germany, households were given incentives to power their homes using solar panels. The incentive takes place whenever the solar system in their homes produced more electricity on a given day than they required. The extra units of electricity are then sent to the local electricity provider's system (electrical box, located on light poles) just outside the home and then used to power more homes in the vicinity, after which the homeowners are paid for the electricity they provided.
What is the plan, new gov't?
I then thought about our role as Jamaicans in the implementation of renewable energy. I would specifically like to know if there is a plan for the country by the new government to implement renewable energy on a large scale throughout Jamaica.
I would be happy to know that such a plan is even being developed because this would impact our country and the world not only socially, but economically and ultimately heal the environment for future generations.
I am, etc.,
