Charlie Smith drub Pembroke Hall 6-0
published: Saturday | October 20, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Charlie Smith booked their place in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup in fine style when they dispatched Pembroke Hall 6-0 at the Tony Spaulding Complex yesterday.

In the tightly contested Group E, Charlie Smith moved to 22 points, well ahead of third placed Greater Portmore, who moved to 15 points with two games remaining, following their 4-1 victory over Denham Town.

Also, with two games left on their schedule, Camperdown moved a win away from securing their spot when they edged Ascot 1-0.

Christopher Burton blasted the ball into the net in the 13th minute, but only on the second time of asking, after seeing his initial shot snuffed out by the defence line.

It would be a spectacular effort from Omar Teape that would put the former champions ahead five minutes later.

Broke through defenders

With a poorly cleared attempt bobbling around awkwardly almost 30 yards away from goal, Teape put his boot through the ball like a sled hammer, unleashing a shot that rocketed off before curling into the top left-hand corner of the goal.

Leroy Clark broke through a thicket of defenders, who struggled to clear their lines six yards away from goal, to slot in Charlie's third in the 16th minute and Burton returned to net his brace in the 24th, while a high looping header from Kemar Brown in the 30th minute added to Pembroke Hall's woes. Kemar Douglas then added another goal on the stroke of half-time.

Dropping more players behind the ball and with the introduction of Colts goalkeeper, Oshane Foster, Pembroke Hall proved to be a much more resilient force in the second half.

In Group B Eltham High and Kingston College (K.C.)also affirmed their place in the next round following respective 3-0 and 4-1 wins over Kingston High and Jose Marti.

With one game remaining, Eltham sit at the top of the group with 19 points, while KC are second on 16.
