Performer of the Week: Ford scores big in Cash Plus Premier League
published: Saturday | October 20, 2007

Ford

SPORTING CENTRAL striker Oneke Ford worked overtime for his team last weekend scoring a hat-trick plus one in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Reno in the Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL).

The goals, which separated the sides in the close encounter, also saw newly-promoted Sporting land their first win of the season and make Ford The Gleaner Performer of the Week.

After seeing his team fall two goals down, the burly forward blasted in the first of his goals in the 43rd minute. Midway through the second half the striker found the equaliser when he combined well with Sean Coleman.

To the delight of the local spectators, the two repeated the act to put Sporting ahead four minutes later.

Determined to salvage at least a share of the points, Reno equalised in the 73rd minute, but a more determined Ford gave Sporting Central the win with a superb finish just one minute later.

The young Ford, who has also played for North East Stars in Trinidad and Tobago, was a crucial part of Sporting Central's CPPL qualification bid. He was also called to a Jamaican Clarendon All-Stars team last year to play Jamaica national team in a build up for the Jamaica versus England friendly.
