Rasbert Turner, Gleaner WriterSpanish Town, St. Catherine:Troy White, a 25-year-old farmer charged with four counts of manslaughter, was on Thursday granted bail in the sum of $1 million and scheduled to reappear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on January 29 next year.
White appeared before Senior RM Lorna Errar Gayle yesterday, following an application by defence attorney Lancelot Clarke Junior, who cited discrepancies and indicated that the two main witnesses for the crown had not given any statements that could help clear up several ambiguities.
"Both drivers only stated that, having seen a light, they crashed," said Clarke.
While granting bail to White, the RM said that it was a glaring allegation that stood against him as he had to account for the loss of four lives.
The clerk of the courts opposed bail on the grounds that several witnesses were still hospitalised.

Investigating officer Sergeant Osbourne Fearon said he was in contact with the other potential witnesses.
The condition of his bail is that he report to the Spanish Town police station three times weekly.
White's appearance arose from an accident along the Guanomoa Vale Main Road near Kitson Town, St. Catherine, on September 25.
At Approximately 7:30 p.m., it was alleged that White, while driving a Toyota Hilux pick-up towards Kitson Town, hit a Nissan motor truck and then a Nissan motorcar, killing Tashay Wilson, 16; Inez Cameron, 71; Collen White, 24; and 37-year-old Lorraine Gordon, all of Point Hill addresses. Four other passengers in the ill-fated car were hospitalised.
