Parliament on waterfront
published: Tuesday | October 16, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Conrad A. Jackson's idea of locating the new parliament building downtown on the waterfront is a very good idea. This will set the tone that the Government is interested and committed to revitalising downtown Kingston and bring back necessary commerce and security.

With the location of the Parliament building on the waterfront, Jamaica will witness a resurgence of businesses and international organisations wanting to relocate close to the Parliament.

It will be a new dawn for high-end housing close to the building and instead of government enticing developers to come, they will see the need and business sense in coming to downtown. The Government must first show it is serious about the redevelopment of downtown by relocating the Parliament building there, then commerce, security and development will follow.

I am, etc.,
