Jamaica College (J.C.) looked in awesome form as they easily dismantled Tivoli Gardens 7-0 in Group A of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup at Jamaica College yesterday.
In a decidedly one-sided affair, the hosts put on a coaching clinic for the bewildered west Kingston team in slushy conditions.
Anthony Grant led the way for the Old Hope Road team with a hat-trick, taking just nine minutes to put J.C. in the lead. Grant would add another goal for the dark blues before central midfielder, former Calabar captain Robert Palmer, blasted past a scampering goalkeeper, Regis Ball, from almost 45 yards in the 30th minute. Grant completed his first hat-trick with a 42nd minute penalty.
Dominant back-line
Another former Calabar representative, Ramone Palmer had an easy finish in the 43rd minute to give J.C. an insurmountable 5-0 lead by half-time.
Tivoli started the second half in a positive mood, but never looked like they were going to be a danger in the final third against a dominant back-line.
At the other end, J.C. always looked a favourite to score more goals. DeAndre Brown ensured that they did with his 61st minute blast from just inside the 18-yard area, before Ramone Palmer bore down on the keeper, finishing with a classy close-range lob over the custodian.
"We saw them the last match, so we knew they were weak in certain areas and expected to be able to dominate the way we did," explained J.C. assistant coach, Delroy Brown.
Tivoli coach, Dave Clarke, did not believe that there was a win on the cards for his team.
"Whenever you have a team that is't scoring goals, it's goung to be difficult. We haven't given up, but it's going to be tough."
Meanwhile, in yesterday's Manning Cup report, it was incorrectly stated that Dunoon Technical beat Ardenne 4-2 in their match at Ardenne High. Ardenne High actually won the Group D encounter 4-2. The error is regretted.
GIRLZ win
Meanwhile, Jamaica's Reggae Girlz went a step closer to qualifying for the second round in the Caribbean group play-offs for next year's Olympic Games.
Led by six goals from Tashana Vincent, the Jamaicans ham-mered hosts Antigua 11-0, to register their second consecutive win.
Victory lifted the Girlz to maximum six points, following a 4-0 win over Bermuda in their opening game on Wednesday.
Jamaica will round off its schedule against Dominica on Sunday. There are four first round qualifying groups and only the winner will advance to the second stage, which advances two countries to the CONCACAF Final round play-offs.
