CARLTON BAUGH Jr. was the backbone behind Melbourne's victory in last week's final of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) limited-overs competition at Sabina Park.

Baugh Jr. scored an impressive century to steer Melbourne to an easy 118-run win over Police in the final.

The diminutive Kangaroos' captain came to the crease after his team had lost Dwayne Thompson, 15, Donovan Pagon, 13, and Yanick Elliott, zero, and the game was evenly poised at 84 for three.

Baugh, a former Wolmer's Sunlight Cup player, and Damion Henry, 69, joined forces and put together 107 for the fourth wicket.

Despite losing his partner at 191, Baugh was not willing to give up as he drove, pulled and cut his way to 110, which came off only 97 deliveries.

In his knock, which was described by his coach Courtney Walsh as the match winner, Baugh hit nine fours and four sixes.

Former West Indies and Jamaica captain Courtney Walsh, president and coach at Melbourne, said: "I think his innings was the match winner for us and also the way he handled the troops out there on the field."

Sent in to bat, Melbourne made 276 off 49.3 overs and then dismissed Police for 158 in 43.2 overs.
