The Editor, Sir:
I listen with utter amazement to some of the reasons given by people for not wanting to vote. This is a constitutional right which our foreparents fought long and hard for us to be able to exercise our franchise, and have a say in who will run the affairs of the country. It is silly for people to sit on their verandah and not vote, but at the same time cry foul play and cry for change.
What most ordinary Jamaicans don't seem to understand is that if they do not vote, the core support of the PNP will keep it in power and we will have to endure more of the same old nonsense.
After 18 years of plunder and mismanagement, the Government has no moral authority to lead this country. It has been an era of unprecedented corruption. Never in the history of Jamaica have we ever seen so many acts of blatant corruption, sometimes called youthful exuberance.
I say to all well-thinking Jamaicans, get up, stand up for your rights and vote your conscience. We need an urgent change of government.
I am, etc.,
