Fraser sets up win for Miami
published: Saturday | July 7, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO, California (CMC):

ATTACKING JAMAICAN midfielder Sean Fraser made scoring headlines in United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division action for Miami FC as they beat California Victory 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Fraser opened the scoring in the 35th minute and set up Miami for the win at California's Kezar Stadium that snapped a one-month winless streak.

Miami had not won since beating the Atlanta Silverbacks on June 2, most recently falling to the Portland Timbers 1-0 in Portland last week, but they were assertive in this road assignment and Fraser, linking up with 1994 Brazilian World Cup winning midfielder Zinho, tormented the home side, especially in the first half.

Fraser actually had three good chances to score before finally hitting the net 10 minutes before the break, finishing well after Zinho had sent him through with a splendid pass.

Red card

California lost Ricardo Sanchez to a red card in the 79th minute for a foul on Zinho and three minutes later when Chris Schwarze headed an attempted clearance from a corner into his own goal.

John Pulido struck with a curling free kick in the 86th minute and California got a consolation goal in the 89th minute from Chuck Kim.

Miami will next tackle the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada.
