Ainsley Walters, Staff ReporterDESPITE BEING slapped with top weight 60.5 kilos, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's CLOCK WORK should win tomorrow's co-feature, the 1100-metre She's On Wheels Trophy.
American-bred CLOCK WORK is on a hat-trick of Graded Stakes victories after landing May's Lotto Sprint and the Digicel Irish Jamaican Stakes at odds of 11-1 on Derby Day.
DaCosta has three other runners in the six-horse field, HIDALGO (48.5), DIGI N' JIGGY (48.0) and PASSA PASSA (48.0).
The field is completed by Robert Darby's NASATOL (48.0) and Dwight Chen's MUSICAL MAESTRO (51.0), who should be CLOCK WORK's main rival.
MUSICAL MAESTRO comes in at 51 kilos or 112 lb, 21 lb lighter than CLOCK WORK at 133.
CLOCK WORK got the better of MUSICAL MAESTRO in his past two wins but won those races with 120 lb, even sitting at level weight in the Lotto Sprint in May.
MUSICAL MAESTRO actually went off as the 6-5 favourite to beat CLOCK WORK in the Lotto Sprint and was far from disgraced, finishing a length and a quarter behind DaCosta's speedster.
He was far lighter, 47.5 kilos, when beaten two and three quarters of a length by CLOCK WORK with 54.5 in the Digicel Irish Stakes. However, Chen's runner could have been feeling the effects of a tough race, run only a week earlier.
MUSICAL MAESTRO was sent down in class where he battled to a half-length win over CALABASH BAY among Open Allowance runners at 1200 metres, carrying top weight of 57 kilos.
That effort could have jaded him but tomorrow's race, despite CLOCK WORK's big weight, will still be a tough task for MUSICAL MAESTRO with Trevor Simpson aboard.
CLOCK WORK will be the controlling speed and should enjoy an unmolested lead with Dane Nelson aboard. The American runs the curves sweetly, whereas MUSICAL MAESTRO tends to get rolling up the lane, which will be too late.
