Balance, skill at the bar!
published: Friday | July 6, 2007

Keisha Shakespeare-Blackmore, Staff Reporter

Albert Brown balances a glass of strawberry shortcake drink on the back of his hand during the Flair round, during which he had 12 minutes to make five drinks with flair and style. Albert, after doing a few tricks, managed to scoop up second place in the competition.

Bottles flew, 'spirits' kissed the faces of patrons and even a few glasses came to an untimely crash at the World Bartender Championship competition on Wednesday night at T.G.I. Friday's in St. Andrew. Only one of the five contestants could become Jamaica's Best All- Round Bartender. There were two sections; the Speed round (to complete five drinks in one and a half minutes) and the Flair round (to complete five drinks in style in 12 minutes). At the end of the watery journey, Stacey Little, also called 'Spongebob', stole the show with few accidents and plenty of panache.

She topped it off with a stunning act. While bending backward, she placed a shot glass on her forehead, made ET (a T.G.I. Friday's drink) and served it to one of the judges. Wow!

Damion Buckley did a few tricks during the Flair round of the competition that included balancing a glass of Hawaiian Volcano on his hand.

Stacey Little slowly walks backwards carrying a glass of ET on her forehead before serving it to George Makhoul, one of the judges.

It certainly cannot get more animated than this and the audience had much to cheer about at the competition. - photos by Peta-Gaye Clachar/Staff Photographer
