CHAMPION TRAINER Wayne DaCosta's CHADMAN yesterday outclassed stablemate PASSA PASSA and eight other rivals to romp the 1400-metre LC McKenzie Memorial Cup feature race by seven and a quarter-length at Caymanas Park.

Sent off at a king's ransom of 8-5 as second choice in the Overnight Allowance event behind Richard Azan's ROYAL COMMAND at 3-2, the American-bred CHADMAN left the gate sharply under Dane Nelson to relegate PASSA PASSA within a furlong.

Hustled by Nelson, the five-year-old gelding streaked away down the backstretch to turn for home in total command, leaving PASSA PASSA, who went off at 6-1, to ensure a one-two for the champion trainer, who is locked in a keen tussle with rival Philip Feanny.

PASSA PASSA stayed on for second, three-quarters of a length clear of the fit SATISFIER, stepping up in class from top-level claiming.

CHADMAN, who is owned by Bitter Sweet, last beat Overnight Allowance horses in October of last year and his return to the level was well timed by DaCosta as he spent the mandatory eight months in higher classes running consistently well.

Despite saddling the first two winners past the post in the day's feature, DaCosta still trails Feanny in the trainers' standings as his rival posted an early three-timer on the 11-race card.

Feanny landed the first two races, starting with two-year-old Maiden LIMA'S BIGBADBOY at 600 metres straight and followed up SPECIAL K in a three-year-old Maiden event at 1000 metres straight.

The 14-time champion trainer returned to land the fourth, division two of the second, with LIQUID GOLD. Peter Bryan booted home LIMA'S BIGBADBOY, while veteran jockey Charles Hussey was aboard Feanny's other two winners.

Despite sitting out a one-day ban, leading rider Paul Francis remained in front on 32 winners as Trevor Simpson, who started the day on 31 winners, went home empty-handed.

However, the race has gotten even more interesting as in-form rider Oneil Mullings joined Simpson on 31 after riding a double, TIME OF MY LIFE in third and SUPER NATURAL in the 11th, winning the final race in a driving finish, beating CHOO CHOO CHOO by a neck.

Apprentice Omar Walker also had two winners, SIR ROMEL in the seventh and STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT in the ninth. His double moved him to 30 wins and third in the standings.

The day's longest shots were MY TRAIN at 5-1 in the sixth and STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT, who went off at 7-1, resulting in a Pick-9 carryover of $1.5m to next Saturday's St. Leger Day meet.

Trainers Bill Deenah and Leroy Fearon, who both graduated from the Jamaica Racing Commision's trainers' programme last Thursday, saddled their first career winners yesterday.

Deenah won the fifth with DEVILISH ISHA and Fearon got off the mark with SEA CRACKERS in the eighth.
