Ramdin reprimanded for showing dissent
published: Sunday | July 1, 2007

LONDON (AP):

WEST INDIES wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has been reprimanded for showing dissent during his team's Twenty20 international loss to England.

Match umpire Nigel Llong reported Ramdin for making a comment at the end of an over after the wicketkeeper had claimed a catch that was not given. Ramdin had celebrated catching England captain Paul Collingwood without even appealing to the umpire.

At a hearing after the game, which England won by five wickets with three balls to spare, Ramdin was censured by match referee Mike Procter.

"The player was clearly disappointed that an appeal had been turned down by umpire Llong," Proctor said yesterday. "But, at the end of the over, he allowed that disappointment to become dissent and that is completely unacceptable.

Apologised

"The player was extremely apologetic at the hearing and I took that into account in reaching my decision ... The player will now have this mark on his record and that will obviously count against him if he fails to uphold the ICC (International Cricket Council) Code of Conduct in future."

The West Indies won the first of the two Twenty20 matches by 15 runs on Thursday. The two teams play at Lord's today in the first of three one-day internationals.
