MONTEGO BAY, ST. JAMES:

They are best known for their selection of genuine leather shoes, and on Friday when the new Montego Bay branch of Leder Mode Limited officially opened its doors, it was evident St. James was anticipating their arrival.

According to Sharon Wignall, group marketing/human resources manager for the Alkali group, holding company for Leder Mode, the reception they received was not surprising, as many people had requested a branch in the Second City.

"Even prior to the official opening of this store, we had people asking about when we would be opening a store here (Montego Bay), especially because of our leather products," she said.

Other leather brands

However, other leather brands, including Dockers, Avante and Expressions, are imported.

Several lucky customers, who made their first purchase, were handed a VIP card, which affords them a 10 per cent discount on future buys, except during a sale.

Leder Mode Limited is a member of the Alkali Group of Companies headed by industrial mogul, A. Barclay Ewart.

The company started with its factory outlet at 259, Spanish Town Road, manufacturing fine leather products using Jamaican hides sourced from our previously thriving cattle industry.
