On June 25 2006, an article captioned 'Reneto Adams policing the badlands of Jamaica' written by Robert Buddan, was published in The Sunday Gleaner. The article alleged, inter alia, that "Jamaicans for Justice, Amnesty International, the Independent Jamaica Council for Human Rights, Families Against State Terrorism and the Farquharson Institute for Public Affairs have amassed more resources to convict Mr. Adams than any other individual in Jamaica's history."

The article also contained a statement, the thrust of which was that the before-named entities had joined with criminals in a joint enterprise to convict Reneto Adams. On July 16, 2006, The Sunday Gleaner published apologies to Jamaicans For Justice, Families Against State Terrorism and The Farquharson Institute of Public Affairs stating, among other things, that it was satisfied that the above statements were false.

The Gleaner and Robert Buddan, for the avoidance of doubt, wish to make it clear that the above apologies were published for and on behalf of both The Gleaner and the writer of the article, Robert Buddan, and the said Gleaner and the said Robert Buddan again unreservedly apologise to Jamaicans for Justice, Amnesty International, the Independent Jamaica Council for Human Rights, Families Against State Terrorism, and the Farquharson Institute for Public Affairs, for publishing the above statements, and for any impression that might have been left in the minds of the public that any of the said entities was in any way connected to criminals.

We further apologise for any embarrassment and/or inconvenience which the publication in question may have caused to the said entities, and disassociate ourselves completely from the offending statements.
