There was cake, cake and more cake at the Betty Crocker Bakers' Fiesta, held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on Sunday.

Some 30 booths were stocked with irresistible sweet treats, including scrumptious bread pudding and finger-licking Black Forrest cake - not to mention the yummy cheesecakes! There was even a pyramid-shaped cake made from a combination of plain and chocolate mixtures.

Another feature was a bake-off among six high schools - Wolmer's High School for Girls, Dunoon High School, Bridgeport High School, Pembroke Hall High School, Vauxhall High School and The Queen's School. The competitors had one hour in which to bake and present a pastry creation using Betty Crocker products. At 12:30 p.m., the bake-off began. Mixers were set at high speed, ovens lit, and dough churned as the participants got things heated up.

At the end of the hour, the onlookers were introduced to the Frog Prince Cake by Bridgeport High. Meanwhile, Vauxhall added a bit of spirit with their Chocolate Coconut Rum Cake. Wolmer's went Italian with their interesting cake called Pizza Lovers' Fantasy With A Twist and French Sticks. Pembroke Hall showcased their exotic fruitcake. The Queen's was creative with their Calabaza Frenzie (a cake laden with fruits at its summit) and Dunoon cast a spell with their Black Magic Cake. The Oueen' s School walked away the winner, with Bridgeport High School coming second, and third going to Vauxhall High School.

There was a Tastee Cheese bake-off adult competition. First place went to Marcia Mitchell for his sweet potato cheese pie; second place went to Danae Ramgolam for her cheese corn quiche; and third place to Elizabeth Crosdale of Chang's Catering for her cheesy fruity banana muffin. Best booth went to Palace Bakery.

Other than the competitions, there were a lot of interesting foods, such as Betty Crocker's strawberry yoghurt cake, special bread pudding, sugar-free chocolate, red-herring bammies and cassava pancake. The jam-packed fiesta also presented a bun-eating competition and a live donut-making demonstration.

It was a good day to eat, be merry and expand the waistlines.
