It was all-you-can-eat Jamaican cuisine at the Sandals Resorts International's second Culinary Media Tour last Wednesday.

First order of the day was a journey down jerk lane at Walkerswood Caribbean Foods. They offered a taste of Caribbean cooking through their line of traditional sauces, seasonings, preserves and canned vegetables. But, the name Walkerswood has become synonymous with jerk.

Jerk seasoning

The company was registered in 1978 and started its life as part of a rural community's effort to create employment for its people. Now, with a growing demand for spicy food, it has developed its own jerk seasoning. Walkerswood became the first to company to export jerk season from the island. Since then, it has distributed over 20 products which include: Solomon Gundy and mango chutney, which are spicy and very tasty.

Next stop was Sandals Grande Ocho Rios and Villa Resort where there was a wide range of delectable Jamaican food. Offerings included a mini ben'-down market setting with lots of fruits and ground provisions. On the buffet line, there were scrumptious dishes ranging from beef salad to corned pork, not to mention the mouth-watering desserts such as lychee cake, chocolate cake, jackfruit and ripe banana spring rolls and lychee crème brlée.

No meal in Jamaica can be complete without the good old Jamaican spirits, but for non-drinkers, there was fruit punch, lemonade and other beverages.
