Richardson drafted as cover for Windies
published: Thursday | June 21, 2007

Richardson

WORCESTER, England (CMC):

Fast bowler Esaun Crandon, batsman Kirk Edwards and all-rounder Mali Richards have joined the West Indies squad as further temporary cover for the fifty over warm up game against England Lions today.

These three players are joining fast bowlers Andrew Richardson and Ruel Brathwaite, who had already linked up with the squad yesterday afternoon. Crandon, a Guyanese fast bowler, Edwards, a Barbadian batsman and Richards, son of legendary batsman Sir Vivian Richards, were sought by the team management after a plethora of issues, including injuries to squad members.

Injury

A niggling injury to Corey Collymore, who travelled with the squad from Durham to Worcester, has ruled him out of contention to play today against the England Lions, formerly England A.

Additionally, after a fitness test yesterday evening, fast bowler Ravi Rampaul, was advised not to participate in the warm-up game as a precautionary measure in order to give him more time to fully recover from the groin tear suffered in the three-day warm up game before the third Test match.

Test players Jerome Taylor and Sylvester Joseph also remain with the squad as additional cover for the injuries and late arrivals.

Dwayne Smith, Lendl Simmons and Austin Richards Jr., the one day players selected in the squad, will arrive in England this morning but will not participate in the first warm-up game at Worcester. They will join the squad in Derby.
