Utility pole crushes child
published: Thursday | June 21, 2007

A concrete utility pole that rolled over and killed a toddler Tuesday night had been dislodged as a result of children playing on it, the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) Ltd. said yesterday.

"There were a number of contributing factors in this case, and we still do not have all the information," said Damian Obiglio, JPS president and chief executive officer, who extended the company's sympathies to the deceased child's family.

According to the JPS, the pole had been placed along the side of the main road near the village square in Mollison, Manchester, on Tuesday. This was to facilitate the replacement of a wooden pole as part of maintenance activities scheduled for today.

Further investigations are being carried outby the JPS and the police.
