Distinguished United States (U.S.) congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee and businessman Michael Lee Chin will deliver commencement addresses at the two-part commencement of the Northern Caribbean University, to be held in August.

The ceremony will be held August 12 on the main campus of the university in Mandeville.

Congresswoman Jackson-Lee will address the commencement scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., while Lee Chin will deliver his address at the ceremony set for 2:00 p.m.

The congresswoman has been serving as a member of the House of Representatives since 1995. Representing the 18th Congressional District of Texas, Congresswoman Jackson-Lee is an outspoken advocate of civil and human rights. She sits on three Congressional Committees - the House Committees on the Judiciary, Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security.

Highly ranked

Ranked as one of the most influential legislators in the House of Representatives by a recent study of United States lawmakers, published by U.S. News and World Report, the congresswoman has previously served as a municipal judge and a member of the Houston City Council.

Jamaican-born Lee Chin, chairman of AIC Limited and of National Commercial Bank, was named by Time magazine as one of 'Canada's Heroes' - one of "the country's most intriguing and inspiring citizens". He is highly regarded as an outstanding entrepreneur, not only in Canada, to which he had migrated in the 1970s, but also within the Caribbean and Central America, where he has significant investment holdings.
