Dr Sheshiah not to be blamed
published: Sunday | June 17, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is my view that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) should have waited on the results of the toxicology and histology tests before arriving at a conclusion that Bob Woolmer was murdered. I believe those results were taken into consideration by the independent pathologist.

Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields had said that the results were secondary as the JCF had a cause-of-death report from Dr. Sheshiah, who found a broken bone in Mr. Woolmer's neck. A review of the autopsy report and procedures should have been done by a team of local pathologists and if necessary, a second autopsy recommended.

I would not blame Dr. Sheshiah as he made his decision based on the evidence that he had at the time. This case is an unfortunate one and I hope that the government will provide all necessary resources and set up a system so that inconclusive autopsies can be reviewed.

I am, etc.,

PATRICK DANIELS
