JAMAICA URBAN Transit Company (JUTC) made a clean sweep of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association men's Business House titles at the University of Technology auditorium on Sunday.
Defending champion Marlon Chin retained the men's singles title then teamed with Oneil White to capture the doubles crown.
JUTC, who had two teams in the competition, defeated former champions Jamaica Public Service (JPS) 3-1 in the final, after blanking St. Ann Bauxite 3-0 in semis. JPS defeated Windalco 3-0 in the other semi.
Chin outlasted teammate White 4-3 (7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 12-14, 11-7, 10-12, 13-11) in the men's singles final and in the men's doubles final, Chin and White edged the JPS pair of Hubert Lawrence and Lincoy Small 3-2 (8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7).
In individual results in the team final, Chin won two matches for his team, overpowering Hubert Lawrence 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 and Lincoy Small 11-5, 14-12, 11-4 while White crushed Small 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 to secure the third match for JUTC I. Patrick Beckford clipped Kenneth Thompson 11-4, 4-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-9 (3-2) to pull one back for JPS.
In the semi between JUTC I and St. Ann Bauxite, White stopped Richard Thomas 3-1, Chin tagged Andrew Lawrence 3-1 and Thompson crushed Oral Brown 3-0 for the 3-0 victory. In the semi-final between JPS and Windalco, Small whipped Marlon Ranger 3-0, Lawrence outplayed George Hyman 3-1 and Beckford overpowered Justin Allen 3-0, for JPS's 3-0 win.
In the doubles semi-finals, Chin and White eased past Andrew Lawrence and Richard Thomas of St. Ann Bauxite 3-0 (11-8, 12-10, 11-7) while Hubert Lawrence and Small beat Robert Gabay and Brian Newman of Cable & Wireless 3-2 (11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8).
