I write in response to the letter from Paul Kokoski, in Hamilton, published in Sunday's Gleaner.

The name of the researcher is Dr. Sandra Witelson. She is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McMaster University here in Hamilton. I am surprised that Mr. Kokoski does not know of her as there have been numerous articles about her in the local press. She had given me the following reference: The Science of Desire: The Search for the Gay Gene and the Biology of Behaviour by Dean Hamer and P. Copel, Simon & Schuster, 1994.

As for the strictures mentioned in the Bible, there are many things in the Bible that we don't take literally. We don't believe that the world was created in six days or that the world is a bit less than 7,000 years old.

I hope the enclosed reference will be of help to Mr. Kokoski.
