A medley of music selectors headed by president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Senator Norman Grant, delighted mothers at the Alpart Farm in Spur Tree, Manchester, on Mother's Day, at the 'Mother's Mix 07' fund-raising event.

The event got under way at about 1:00 p.m. on an overcast day. But not even the drizzle could dampen the spirits, or taste buds, of those who attended to be entertained and enjoy the fare provided, specially for mothers.

Selector after selector played their favourite songs during their stint on the turntables of Winston Blake's Merritone Disco. They also ensured that something was in it for the mothers whom the day belonged to.

As music of the '60s through to the '90s and contemporary songs engulfed the venue, mothers, fathers and even children danced to their favourites, from calypso to reggae, totally enjoying themselves.

At about 3:00 p.m. Ibo Cooper of the reggae band Third World was spinning for the patrons. He gave a splendid display while providing a variety of selections to warm the hearts of his listeners.

Later in the afternoon, MC Richie B took over. After reading a poem dedicated to mothers, he introduced the energetic Pam Hall who reeled off Perfidia.

Blessing hearts

Senator Norman Grant was next. After joking that he thought he was there to address farmers, since the event was being held on a farm, he opened with Boys to Men's Mamma, before blessing hearts with Egyptian's Mamma Don't Cry. He also gave them Terri Linen's Thank You Mamma, among other selections.

Dub poet/lecturer/talk-show host Mutabaruka, Manchester Scouts Association President Custos Dr. Gilbert Allen, his wife Georgia, reggae artiste Queen Ifrica, Errol Lee of the Bare Essentials and Tony Rebel all added to the excitement of the annual event.

The Mother's Mix '07 ended with a stint from Tony Rebel. He gave a wonderful array of selections, including his own Fresh Vegetable.' Rebel's father was in the crowd dancing up a storm.

The funds raised from 'Mother's Mix '07' will go towards the Manchester Scouts Association.
