WESTERN BUREAU:
The three Montego Bay policemen who were implicated in a robbery that reportedly occurred at Dundee, Westmoreland in March, have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The cops were not pointed out in the identification parade held at the St. James Police Divisional Headquarters in Montego Bay on Wednesday afternoon.
"The witnesses that came did not point out any of them, and they were released," stated Superintendent Steve McGreggor, commanding officer for the parish.
Two of the constables were taken into custody on Monday, while the third lawman reportedly turned himself over to his colleagues, hours before the police line-up.
Cash, phones stolen
Reports are that in early March, robbers pilfered more than $300,000 in cash as well as high-end cellular phones from the complainants.
There has been an aggressive move by the St. James police hierarchy to pursue allegations of corruption against members, as it forges ahead to improve its image.
At least 16 policemen in the division were arrested on corruption charges between 2005 and 2006. A number of police were also implicated in the illicit lottery scam. Two were taken into custody but were subsequently released.
