Tivoli aiming to wrest title from Meadhaven
published: Saturday | May 12, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Defending champions Meadhaven United and unbeaten Tivoli Gardens will lock horns to decide this season's Supligen/KSAFA Under-20 League champion-ship, when the teams meet in today's final at the Barbican field at 3:00 p.m.

Today's final will be a rematch of a dramatic knockout final and while Meadhaven eventually retained that title, they had to come from a goal behind after going out in front early and then managed to keep a resilient Tivoli at bay.

Different ending

However, Tivoli coach Christopher Burnett is convinced that things will go differently this time around.

"We expect it to be a very tough game against them, they are the defending champions, but I think we will be able to pull it off this time around," a confident Burnett pointed out.

"We are an unbeaten team headed into this final. They got the better of this in the knockout final, but we have made some adjustments since then."

On Wednesday, Tivoli regis-tered a credible 2-0 win over Bull Bay in the league semi-final.

However, titleholders Mead-haven looked far more con-vincing and barely broke a sweat in dispatching Water-house 5-1 in the day's other game.

Fit teams

Meadhaven's assistant coach, Lijyasu Simms, and his team are confident headed into today's fixture.

"We are the defending champions and I think once we come out and play our normal game we should be victorious," Simms remarked. "Football is about who wants it more on the the day. We really want to retain our title and, hopefully, things will go our way."

Both teams are fit headed into the fixture.

While Meadhaven will look to the crafty Keammar Daley for inspiration, he should have plenty of help from Norman Bailey and Lennox Creary out wide.

Tivoli's attack will be spearheaded by Jermaine Allen, Michael Spence and Ricardo Stern.
