KCC explains
published: Saturday | May 12, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Your publication of Saturday, April 28, 2007, carried a letter written by Mr. Neville Beckford with the caption, 'Left thirsty at Sabina'. Please allow me to outline the arrangements that were made for use of this facility prior to, and during, the just concluded Cricket World Cup.

On Monday, February 19, 2007, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the ICC Cricket World Cup, took control of the entire Sabina Park compound, which includes the Kingston Cricket Club's pavilion. This in effect meant that the Club ceased to operate on that date, and the rights and privileges of all members were suspended until the pavilion is returned to us in May 2007.

Not involved

The Kingston Cricket Club was in no way involved with any arrangements that were made governing how the club's pavilion was used, or who was allowed access to any section of it.

While some of our members purchased tickets in a group package and watched from the clubhouse/ pavilion, our members were also subject to the same restrictions as those imposed on all other patrons to the event.

We trust that this information will reverse the negative perception of our club as stated in the letter.

I am, etc.,

LANNY WALTERS

Kingston Cricket Club

Honorary Secretary
