St Catherine communities receive flood assistance
published: Saturday | May 12, 2007

Residents of at least two communities in St. Catherine that were hit hard by flood waters on Wednesday night, have been receiving assistance from the St. Catherine Parish Disaster Committee.

Disaster Coordinator for the parish, Patricia Lewis told The Gleaner/Power 106 News yesterday that assessments have been done in Nightingale Grove and Bannister.

These two communities were severely affected by flood waters that caused dislocation among scores of residents.

According to Ms. Lewis, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, as well as the Poor Relief Department have sourced assistance for the affected persons.

She said no one has had to occupy established shelters and the various agencies were continuing to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Service said there would be more showers over the next two to three days, as a surface trough continues to influence weather conditions over the island.
