The Editor, Sir:The Tainos called this island 'Coyaba'! It is said that Coyaba means "a little piece of paradise." This land has produced exceptional artistes, athletes, scientists, astute politicians, writers, and the list could go on and on, to the point of saying she has even produced a Michael Lee Chin, a billionaire to boot, whose cash pot places him in the realm of kings.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if our people could return home to this Jerusalem, pool their resources and knowledge to awaken this slumbering giant? However, every Jamaican is afraid of the crime; many opt to retire in Florida. The boogey man 'crime' is cheating Jamaica of her well-deserved ability to soar beyond expectation.
Below are my suggestions as to how to solve the crime factor in our society.
1. The lack of money is the root of the evil among us. The Government and not established 'Dons' should be finding ways to supply the needs of our people.
2. Stop building prisons, build schools.
3. Exile prisoners to specially created walled areas, with a police station on site. Within these areas communities should be established. They would be given assistance to build shelters for themselves and taught a trade to generate funds to feed themselves and to pay for their room and board.
4. Inject Vitamin B complex into their diets, with special attention given to folic acid. Surround them with classical music, take away the music that drums out negative suggestions. Give them hope! Poor diet, and the excessive use of the weed engender negative mental forces that lead people to do things that they would not normally do.
5.Exiled people should have mates, so that they are not forced into abnormal sexuality.
We can look back in time past - England exiled many to Australia, Africans exiled people out of their own villages. Look at the Australians today; they are even beating us at our own game!
We as a people have to learn to treat everyone with love and respect. The future is hazy until we emerge from the mist. We are all passing through this school, Earth.
