Despite a few minor changes this year, Bacchanal Jamaica Carnival is ready for the road today.
On Thursday, Michael Amar Jr., director of Bacchanal Jamaica, told The Sunday Gleaner that "things are now hectic at the Mas Camp. everything looks ready for Sunday, the costumes are completely sold out and all the trucks, for the first time, will be playing the same music.
He added: "We have a cool down session which ends at around 8 p.m. or 9 p.m., because after the road march everybody will be tired, so they might want to just have a drink, some dinner, chat about what happened and probably have a final jump ... We have been putting our live entertainment on the road, where everybody can enjoy for free."
So far the Bacchanal Jamaica events have been going well, with the collaboration of a number of road bands, fte organisers and J'Ouvert groups such as Oakridge, Revellers, Raiders, the Frenchmen and Jokers' Wild.
Patrons have been turning out in their numbers for the Friday night ftes at the Mas Camp Village on Oxford Road, in New Kingston, the adrenaline high of Beach J'Ouvert and the sensuous jam of J'Ouvert, working up to the grand finale today, Bacchanal Pretty Mas Road Parade in the streets of Kingston.
According to Breanna Rae, who handles communications for Bacchanal Jamaica, "There will be no major changes for the road march this year. We start at 10:15 a.m. at Mona High School and we end at 6:30 p.m. the latest at the Mas Camp. There is no final fte this year, so after all the revellers have eaten we close. The time of night and because of security issues and crowd control, we will do it like that this year, so by 8 - 8:30 p.m. the latest, Mas Camp will be over."
