Minor tremor in Mocho Mountains
published: Monday | February 19, 2007

There was a small tremor yesterday in the Mocho Mountains, north of Porus in Manchester.

According to reports from the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies, the tremor was felt at 9:41 a.m. with a magnitude of 2.7 and a focal depth of 15 kilometres.

Earlier this month, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook sections of the country.

A bulletin issued by the Earthquake Unit said the epicentre of yesterday's earthquake was located at Cayman Ridge, 200 kilometres west-north-west of Montego Bay and had a focal depth of 20 kilometres.

The tremor occurred three weeks after the 100th anniversary of the violent earthquake which destroyed Kingston on January 14, 1907.
