Formerly dubbed the 'Recycle Show', the Alternative Fashion Show held last Tuesday afternoon in the Textile Department of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, gave students of the college the opportunity to experiment with unconventional materials to create clothing.
For the most part, the novice designers created convincing pieces from odd materials such as sawdust, brown paper bags, woven shoelaces, plastic bags, Chubby soda bottles, burlap and vinyl.
Coleen Bartley was particularly impressive with her use of woven materials, also Sophia Comrie, whose collection was largely made up of lovely burlap creations.
Among the other designers who showed were: Rojet Smith, Leasho Johnson, Nevine Salmon, Juliet Dyke, Foundation Jewellery, Violet 'Ms. Purple' Foster and Michelle Mason.
A paper and burlap skirt with a blouse, made of paper, and accented with sawdust, was designed by Nicole Milwood, a textile student.

Left: Sophia Comrie deconstructed some burlap and reworked it into a vest and skirt.
In the segment called 'The Dark Side', Leasho Johnson showed this black ruched tube top and pants combination which was all made from plastic bags.
